Project update June 2026
On 16 June 2026, following discussion with the Planning Inspectorate, Kingsway Solar Farm Limited has withdrawn its current Development Consent Order (DCO) Application for the Kingsway Solar Farm.
Kingsway Solar Farm Limited remains determined to deliver the best possible project which considers all the potential impacts as effectively as possible. We intend to work with the Planning Inspectorate and key stakeholders to understand and address key issues and information requirements, in order to bring forward the strongest possible proposals for this critical national project. The intention is to resubmit the DCO Application once these issues have been reviewed and appropriately addressed, and a timeline for that will be provided to all stakeholders as soon as possible.
Kingsway Solar Farm would have the capacity to generate around 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity and power approximately 175,000 homes annually, making a significant contribution towards increasing national energy security.

The Scheme
Kingsway Solar Farm Limited is developing proposals for a new solar farm and overhead line connection to the national grid between Burwell and Balsham in Cambridgeshire (the "Scheme").
The scheme would have capacity to generate around 500 megawatts (MW) of electricity, the equivalent of powering approximately 175,000 homes annually.
It would also include associated infrastructure, including co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS) and inter-array connections to link together the land parcels where the solar panels are located.
